The qualification consists of
MA: Scottish Vocational Qualification Level 2 Agriculture
MA: Scottish Vocational Qualification Level 3 Livestock Production

Modern Apprenticeship
The qualification is accredited through Scottish Qualifications Authority
The qualification is awarded by Lantra

Duration
The apprenticeship scheme runs over 2 years with attendance at SRUC Barony College, Dumfries

Attendance at College
Block release to Barony College usually on one or two week blocks, five times a year
Work Place Assessments
Collection of workplace evidence
Various short courses

Typical duties will include
Milking cows, feeding cows and calves, stirring, mixing and spreading slurry, washing dairy parlour, cleaning out sheds and pens, dehorn calves, working with tractors, fertilizing, working with silage, ploughing, vaccinating and dosing animals, trimming cows feet, working with sheep, general farm duties.

Personal Qualities, Skills and Qualifications
Ideally applicants will have studied to National 4/5s (or General/ Credit Standard Grade level) in subjects such as Maths, English and Science although these are not essential.

A mature outlook and willingness to work as part of a team are essential.

Must be physically able for the tasks involved in the job and be prepared to work outdoors in all weathers.
