What are the benefits?

Your child will get paid while they learn a career for life.  Apprenticeships appeal to students who are looking to learn through hands-on experience and, if they want to progress beyond this, an apprenticeship opens doors to going to University or studying through Open University through the valuable skills and knowledge they have acquired during your training.  They may also train further within their industry or transfer to other sectors, e.g. engineering to renewables industry

Apprentices have the full support of one of their trainee advisors, as well as their supervisor at work, throughout the course of the apprenticeship.  Our advisors are there to ensure that your child is getting out of the job exactly what you and they hoped, as well as making sure they are learning the key skills employers are looking for, and that their learning meets with the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF).

We liaise with a wide variety of industry sectors to offer a range of placements.  We aim to continue to develop this and hope your child will find something that meets their interests, experience and career path.

All apprenticeships include the following:

• An SVQ or NVQ Level 2 or 3 qualification
• Key skills such as communication, team working, problem solving and using your initiative
• A technical qualification such as City & Guilds or other qualification relevant to your industry sector

Your child’s apprenticeship will also always consist of a combination of on-the-job learning and college tuition through block or day release, or distance learning.  They will be assessed in the workplace and, ultimately, will receive a Modern Apprentice certificate if they successfully complete their training.
